เรื่องราวความรักระหว่าง หนุ่มขับรถสองแถวและรับจ้างกรีดยาง กับ นักศึกษาวิทยาลัยครู ที่ถูกเลี้ยงดูมาอย่างเข้มงวด โดย พ่อของเธอ ความรักของทั้งคู่มาถึงทางตันเมื่อพ่อบังคับให้ลูกสาวแต่งงานกับคนรวย ทั้งคู่จึงได้หนีไปอยู่ด้วยกันที่เกาะชาวเลแห่งหนึ่ง เส้นทางรักของทั้งคู่ไม่ได้โรยด้วยกลีบกุหลาบ พวกเขาถูกกีคกันให้ต้องแยกจากกัน แต่ด้วยความรักที่ทั้งคู่มีต่อกันอย่างตราตรึงได้กลายเป็นแรงผลักคันให้ทั้งคู่หาหนทางในการพบเจอกัน เพื่อใช้ชีวิตร่วมกัน จนกลายโศกนาฏกรรมทางประวัติศาสตร์และกลายเป็นเรื่องกล่าวขานจวบจนปัจจุบัน
